Organic Softfall is supplied and delivered by Island Recreation through its various distributors within Tasmania. The material is a natural hardwood flake from eucalypt trees which is produced by a controlled residue process of the wood chipping industry and is highly suited as an under surfacing soft fall material for playground equipment.
Organic Softfall has been tested by The Sports Technology Centre in Western Australia having received an ‘excellent’ rating as playground under surfacing soft fall. The material complies with and exceeds the relevant Australian Playground Standard AS/NZS 4422-96 and as such becomes a certified product.
To ensure AS/NZ 4422-96 is fully achieved, the material must be installed at a depth of no less than 300mm or 360mm in high fall areas and generally 2.5 metres (there are exceptions) from the playground equipment to a hard surface or border.
The material should be within borders, be compacted (children will do this) and be kept damp (occasional watering will also minimise blowing around). In meeting these requirements, the material acts like a sponge and remains soft. A daily maintenance programme to relevel and replenish the material will maintain conformity rather than raking or digging as is done for softwood softfall such as pine bark.
